We began building our home November of 1989 and moved in September 29, 1990. We worked long hours with the help of family, friends, and paid workers.
We have radiant heat instead of forced air heating. Our basement is walk out and the garage is extra big 29' by 36'. We sit on 2.5 acres in a neighborhood of 40 lots. Each lot is at least 1.5 acres so our neighbors are close yet we all have our own space. Our lot is rectangular and a stream runs the full length on the north end. Several neighbors have horses, goats, mules, cows, besides the wildlife of elk, deer, porcupines, raccoons, fox, etc.
We built the main floor so that as we grew older we would not have to go up and down stairs so the laundry room, master bedroom with retreat, kitchen, dining room, and living room are all on the main floor. Upstairs we have two bedrooms, a bathroom with a shower, and storage space over the kitchen. The basement has the family room, food storage room, one bedroom, sewing/craft room, exercise/storage room, bathroom with a claw foot tub, and access to the office. The office has a half bathroom.
Our children have enjoyed playing and fishing in the different water sources, playing night games through the property, sledding on the big hill in the back yard made from the extra dirt and rocks from the digging of the foundation, and playing in the dirt.
The growing season is shorter than it is in Salt Lake, but we grow raspberries, strawberries, peas, tomatoes, carrots, beans, squash, and many other vegetables. Lilac bushes grow in our yard and my tulips and daffodils are beautiful. We have a mound in the front yard with a circular driveway. On the mound are many perennial plants and a nice tree. We planted quackies in the smaller mounds in the yard and we have 4 pine trees that get bigger every year on the north side close to the stream. The stream helps other trees and bushes stay healthy that were there before we arrived.
Our children are moving away and we want to be closer to family.
These pictures were taken Sunday morning January 25th after a fresh snowfall.
